ANXIETY PILL #2

Several years after I was married, I went through a challenging financial crisis. At one point I had approximately $30,000 owed me but was never paid. Being a small business, I was unable to pay my bills. From there, things escalated to where my family vehicle, for my wife and five children, was repossessed. My water and power were turned off, and I was desperately scrambling, trying to make enough money to feed my family and survive.

One day, during this very trying time, I was at a job site working with my excavator, and all of a sudden, I heard a snap. Immediately the excavator was immobilized. I had just had a major breakdown, $10,000 worth! I kind of went into shock. I was dumbfounded by what just happened. After pinpointing what the problem was, I went home to my wife. I was very discouraged as I began to share with her what had just happened. When I was finished, she looked at me and said, “Aren’t you excited? This means God has to do something! This is out of our control – he knows what is going on and is going to make a way for us. Aren’t you excited! We are headed for a miracle! We will see God’s power on our behalf!”

I was thinking – are you crazy? Quit being super-spiritual on me!!! This is a terrible situation! What do you mean, Aren’t you excited? Are you serious? Are you out of your mind? I never said those words out loud, but those thoughts were rolling through my head. Even though, at that moment, I knew I needed to believe God. I was looking at the circumstances, trusting in me while my wife was trusting God. Trusting me equals fear and anxiety – trusting God equals peace and joy.

I believe God allows these kinds of situations in our lives to not only test our faith but to prepare us for the great things he has ahead of us. Many times, when these life-altering situations take place, God is steering us in a new direction that will bring about the greatest blessing and the most significance for our lives!

Yesterday I talked about Psalm 23:4 where David said, “Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will not fear for thou art with me.” Even when it looked like David was going to die, he did not fear. Why? For one reason, and one reason alone – “Thou art with me.” That’s all you need to know! God is with you! He loves you! All you need to do is trust his love! I am blessed by David’s confession at the end of that chapter, it says, “Surely goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.” Psalm 23:6

Will you trust him today? Will you cast your cares upon him, knowing he cares for you? If you will, you will have just downed…
