Really Big Things

It’s weird how sometimes little things can end up being so profound? It is easy to nonchalantly the Bible, mindlessly passing over little things that, unbeknownst to us, have great significance and meaning. Have you ever found yourself reading something from the Bible that you had read many times before, but all of a sudden, you see something brand-new that you had never seen before? This has happened to me many times! The Bible is so packed with profound nuggets that reading it only a few times could never even begin to scratch the surface!

It is important to note that God never wastes words; when he moved his writers, every stroke of his pen, whether word or number, had and has real and profound significance! The following is an example of this.

Exodus 28:31-35  “Make the robe of the ephod entirely of blue cloth, with an opening for the head in its center. There shall be a woven edge like a collar around this opening so that it will not tear. Make pomegranates of blue, purple, and scarlet yarn around the hem of the robe, with gold bells between them. The gold bells and the pomegranates are to alternate around the hem of the robe. Aaron must wear it when he ministers. The sound of the bells will be heard when he enters the Holy Place before the LORD and when he comes out so that he will not die.

In the Bible, the pomegranate speaks of passion, fruitfulness, blessing, and prosperity (see Num 13:23; Deut 8:8 and Song 7:12).

Song of Solomon 7:12 “Let us get up early and go to the vineyards to see if the grapevines have budded if the blossoms have opened and if the pomegranates have bloomed. There I will give you my love.

When opened, pomegranates are a blushing fruit and speak powerfully of our hearts of passion opened to our Lover.” The Hebrew word for pomegranate is “rimmon” from the root “ramam” which means to exalt. Golden bells had to be making noise every time Aaron entered into the holy place and every time he went out so that he would not die (Ex 28:34).

Spiritual death happens when the sounds of praise and passionate worship are no longer heard. Sadly, many relegate their Christianity down to mere knowledge and not intimacy with God. A person who has a vibrant relationship with God is constantly releasing passionate praise and worship to God. The Bible encourages us to enter God’s presence with thanksgiving and praise.

Ps 100:4 Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name.

King David said, “I will bless the Lord at all times; his praise will always be on my lips.” Ps 34:1

The Bible speaks much about the subject of praise and worship because through praise and worship, God’s Spirit is released. We must never forget that the true work of Christianity is God working through us – not us working for God! That is a statement you don’t want ever to forget! It’s time for us to live in the freedom bought for us by the blood of Jesus! It is time for worship and thankfulness to be our mode of operation throughout our day! It’s time for the work of God to flow through us! You can rest assured that it will never be about what we can do; it will always be about what he can and will do through us!

So why did God command the priest to always wear garments with pomegranates embroidered into them and bells hanging from the hems? Well, I believe there is much more to it than what we have discussed so far, but I believe part of the reason is that God wanted us to be reminded that passionate praise and worship is a big deal to him!

As I pray for you today, I ask God to enable you to have a heart open to Him, your Lover! May you earnestly long for Him and desire to give Him everything that you are! May today’s words stir you to recommit yourself to a life of passionate praise and worship to God, and may He draw you into an extraordinary place of intimate relationship with Him!

A valuable takeaway from today’s thoughts is the reminder to consider the little things because sometimes those little things are…
