Why

Some things require a combination code or password to get in. Have you ever tried logging into a website but didn’t have the correct password? To some, Christianity is like that. They pursue God as if their knowledge or efforts could attain him but never enter into the life God has offered – almost as if they are using the wrong password.

Have you ever struggled with the idea of God being deeply in love with you? I have! I used to think that the only way to obtain God’s deep, passionate love and favor was to earn it through Bible study, prayer, and faithful service. Obtaining God’s blessing and love was confusing, especially in light of the scathing words of Jesus directed at very religious people.

Mat 21:31b “Truly I tell you, the tax collectors and the prostitutes are entering the kingdom of God ahead of you.

How could that be? How could these people who are disobeying God’s righteous laws get into the kingdom before the religious people?

Do you remember the story of King David’s sin against Uriah and Bathsheba? He committed adultery with one of his top general’s wives, Bathsheba, and tried to hide his sin by having him murdered. (Read 2 Samuel chapters 11 and 12) in the past, I felt so angry at him! He was so evil – why would God love him! Why, in the New Testament, did the angel call King David the father of Jesus? Why would God allow himself to be associated with such a piece of scum? Since God knows all things, why would he call David a man after his own heart? (Acts 13:22) Why does Jesus say out of his own mouth in the book of Revelation that he holds the key of David? (Rev 3:7) It seems like David’s heinous crimes would cause God never to mention him or be associated with him again.

I’m so glad God does not see me the way I used to look at King David. The truth is, I used to wonder why Jesus would come for someone like me with all my sin and failure! Not only that, a world of people like me! This kind of love seems more fit for a fairytale that is just too good to be true, but thank you, Jesus – God’s amazing love for us is for real!

Oh, the grace and the mercy of God! If we only knew – if we would only let go and receive! Yes, I know – It is so far beyond our thinking and genuinely boggles the mind of those who try to conceive it! Yes, It is absolutely crazy! But nonetheless, God Truly Loves Us – He truly Loves You!

Jn 3:16-17   “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.

Lk 19:10 For the Son of Man came to seek and to save what was lost.

1 John 3:1  How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are.

Think about it; God was willing to give up everything to have you! – Yes, you – and yes me! Absolutely astounding! In light of this incredible truth, what should our response be? How are you responding to his incredible love and mercy?

Ro 12:1 Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual act of worship.

May your response to the precious love of God be uninhibited, childlike surrender! May you fully yield to any and every desire of his loving heart towards you! May the revelation of his love for you drive you to passionate acts of love and service for him and others!

Trying to understand why God would give his life for us is like trying to put all the oceans of the world into a teaspoon! Don’t try to figure out God’s love –just let go and let him love you! Just receive! Receiving his love empowers you to live a life that looks just like him! Now is the time, and this is the secret combination code; the password you need Just-Receive-And-Don’t-Ask-…
