It’s Natural

Everything in the natural realm has a spiritual counterpart. I believe that God gave us everything we can see, taste, touch, and feel to let us know what the spiritual world is like. It’s interesting how many things we do that we don’t have to think about; they happen naturally. You will naturally flinch, blink, and react if someone throws something at you when you are not paying attention. You don’t have to tell your body to create saliva or produce bile for digestion. Likewise, you don’t need to tell your body to assemble the sequences of proteins so that you can build muscle – it’s natural.

One of the things that we do without thinking is breathing. Unless something is wrong, we breathe naturally. When a baby comes out of the womb, you don’t have to tell it to breathe. Why? Because it is natural. The only way a baby won’t naturally breathe is if there’s something wrong.

Similarly, when a person is born into the kingdom of God, breathing (communion with God) should be natural. If everything is normal, breathing should be regular and continual. Apostle Paul instructed the church at Thessalonica to rejoice in the Lord always, pray continually, and in everything, give thanks. 1Thess 5:16-18  God doesn’t tell us to commune with him all the time because he needs it – no – we needed it! King David knew how desperately he needed God and brought the following.

Psalm 34:1 I will bless the Lord at all times, his praise will always be on my lips.”

Ps 63: 6-7 On my bed I remember you; I think of you through the watches of the night. Because you are my help, I sing in the shadow of your wings.

Those who know how valuable communion with God is will naturally do it all the time. I think God is often treated as if he is only available during morning prayer and devotions, but indeed he is available all the time. Hebrews 13:5 says, “never will I leave you, never will I forsake you.” God is with us all the time because we need communion with him all the time.

Jesus demonstrated the power of God while he was on this earth because God anointed him with the Holy Spirit. Acts 10:38 how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and how he went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil because God was with him. Just as Jesus was anointed with the Holy Spirit, so you and I are to be anointed with the same Holy Spirit. Before Jesus left the earth, he told the disciples to wait in Jerusalem so that they could also be anointed with the Holy Spirit and power.

Acts 1:4,5, 8   4 On one occasion, while he was eating with them, he gave them this command: “Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about. 5 For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.”  8But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

Like the disciples, God gave us his Holy Spirit so that we would not only be empowered but that he would constantly lead us. Apostle John wrote, “But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come.” John 16:13

God has promised us that he will never leave us or forsake us, and he has given us his Holy Spirit. God knows that only when we live in communication with him can we experience his glory and power! God longs for us to share in his abundant life. Only when we live in constant communion with him can we experience all he has for us. What an opportunity you and I have to enjoy the presence of God! My dear friend, today affords you the opportunity to tap into the most significant purpose of your existence – communion with God. When it comes to genuine communion and fellowship with God, don’t be intimidated by big words or fancy concepts because…
