My heart is always warmed when I meditate upon the truth that God is everywhere present. God is much closer than most realize, and his longing for us to experience him is much more passionate than we ever dreamed. It is so important to understand that the beginning of a genuine relationship with God is a recognition of his existence.

Hebrews 11:6 And without faith it is impossible to please God, for those who come to him must believe that he is and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.

Though the Bible declares that God is not far from any of us, have you ever found that he can feel far away at times? Though feelings are important, it is vital to be led by truth, not our feelings. When our longing for God is based on truth, it becomes like gravity to a cloud full of moisture, causing it to rain.

Acts 17:26-27  From one man, he made every nation of men, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he determined the times set for them and the exact places where they should live. God did this so that men would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from each one of us.

God knows that until we want him for real, we will be unwilling to let go of this world and its ways. Listen to what Jesus says, 

“Then Jesus said to his disciples, “If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will find it. Matthew 16:24-25

Those who are willing to surrender to God’s love and grace are those who find out that he is much better than houses, money, marriage, vacations, family, careers, etc. All those things pale in comparison to the glorious life of intimacy with God! The truth is, there is no real life outside of God! God is life! Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” John 14:6 Apostle John wrote, “In him was life, and that life was the light of men.” John 1:4

Everything that is pursued outside of God proves to be empty and hollow with only short-lived pleasure. Those who want to experience the glory and ecstasy of intimacy with God must be willing to surrender to his love without reservation. When his immense love becomes your reality, everything else in life takes a backseat! King David understood and experienced the tremendous love of God and said, “Because your love is better than life, my lips will praise you.” Psalm 63:3

Many people get so caught up with this world that they have no time for God and find themselves graphically disappointed. They often feel disappointed because of the lack of true fulfillment found in what this world has to offer. They often see life as confusing and wonder if it is really worth pursuing. On the contrary, those who seek a relationship with God find a life that is truly worth living.

God is intensely passionate about us and longs for us to experience his abundant life. Knowing the amazing life of God available for us and the lure of this world to keep us from it, Apostle James wrote, “You adulterous people, a don’t you know that friendship with the world means enmity against God? Therefore, anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God.” James 4:4

Because Jesus knew that friendship with the world causes a person’s connection to God to grow cold, he said, “In the same way, any of you who does not give up everything he has cannot be my disciple.”  Luke 14:33

Giving up everything does not mean you sell all your possessions and go live on the street, but it does mean putting God before anything else in your life. God knows the only way we will genuinely love living is when he becomes our life. There’s nothing in this world that can compare!

An intimate relationship with God is the result of completely letting go so that God can fill you completely and fully complete you! Oh, what a glorious life! Thank you, dear Father, for giving us this incredible opportunity!
