YOU CAN BE RIGHT WITH GOD!
Early on in my ministry, God began to reveal to me how serious he was about delivering us from the law. So, Since 2001 I have spent a lot of time preaching about us being free from the law and the life of self-righteousness.
As an analogy, consider how an engine cannot run without fuel. Just as fuel is necessary to make an engine work, so the law is essential for the production of sin. The law is the power behind sin. The only way to be free from sin is to be free from the law. The only way to fulfill the righteous requirements of the law is to live free from the law and inside of the grace of God.
1 Corinthians 15:56 The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law.
Romans 6:14 For sin shall not be your master, because you are not under law, but under grace.
I love how apostle Paul explains this concept in the following Scripture. Rom 4:13-15 Clearly, God’s promise to give the whole earth to Abraham and his descendants was based not on his obedience to God’s law, but on a right relationship with God that comes by faith. 14 If God’s promise is only for those who obey the law, then faith is not necessary and the promise is pointless. 15 For the law always brings punishment on those who try to obey it. (The only way to avoid breaking the law is to have no law to break!) (NLT)
There is only one way to fulfill the righteous requirements of the law, and that is through dying to it and belonging, or becoming one with Christ. Take a look.
Romans 7:4-6 So, my brothers, you also died to the law through the body of Christ, that you might belong to another, to him who was raised from the dead, in order that we might bear fruit to God.
5 For when we were controlled by the sinful nature, the sinful passions aroused by the law were at work in our bodies, so that we bore fruit for death.
6 But now, by dying to what once bound us, we have been released from the law so that we serve in the new way of the Spirit, and not in the old way of the written code.
The Scripture declares that we died to the law through the body of Christ that we might belong to another. You cannot use the phrase, “belong to another” if you have not first belonged to someone. Therefore, the Scripture clearly delineates that we, as in marriage, belonged to the law but now are supposed to belong to Christ.
The power of sin is the law. Therefore, sin is not supposed to be your master, and the reason is – You are not under law but under grace. We were set free from the law when we died to it through the body of Christ at the cross. And now, by dying to what bound us we have been released from the law and live inside of God’s grace and therefore inside of intimacy with Christ. The only way to bear fruit to God is to live free from the law. Rom 7:4
The Scriptures I am using are decisively speaking about the law of Moses, including the 10 Commandments because it goes on to say, "Romans 7:7-8 What shall we say, then? Is the law sin? Certainly not! Indeed, I would not have known what sin was except through the law. For I would not have known what coveting really was if the law had not said, "Do not covet."
8 But sin, seizing the opportunity afforded by the commandment, produced in me every kind of covetous desire. For apart from law, sin is dead.
"Thou shalt not covet" is the 10th commandment. Therefore, in context, God is not wanting us to pursue a right standing with him through any part of the law, including the 10 Commandments! Apart from the law, sin has no power over us! Do you live your life knowing you are already righteous by the blood of Jesus and the cross, or do you live your life trying to be good enough to obtain God’s grace? I promise you, the only way you can fulfill the righteousness that God requires is to live in simple faith!
You died with Christ to the law and sin! Oh yes! It is time to completely sever your relationship with your old partner, the law! It is time to live inside of God’s incredible life of freedom! You can be sure, this is the only way…
