HE CAN USE ME!

It’s Christmas Eve! :-)

I hope all your plans for this Christmas are progressing along well! What a wonderful time of year! What a glorious time to give God thanks and honor for sending Jesus!

One of the most intriguing things about the way God does things is and how he chooses the most unlikely for his highest purposes. Do you remember the story when the prophet Samuel went to pick a king for Israel? He went to the house of Jesse, and all the sons were brought before him from the eldest first to the youngest – except David. David, a shepherd boy, was so unimportant and unlikely to be chosen king that they left him in the fields to care for the sheep. After the prophet had gone through each of the boys, he said, “Are these all the sons you have?” “There is still the youngest,” Jesse answered. “He is tending the sheep.” Samuel said, “Send for him; we will not sit down until he arrives.” 1 Samuel 16:11

As you know, it was David he chose to be the king of Israel! It is mind-blowing to me that the one who was considered the most unworthy to be at the festival occasion would be the one God would choose. Not only that, later on, Jesus would be called the son of David. (Luke 1:32) Yes – that shepherd boy who was the most unlikely to succeed. Ironically, at the coming of Jesus, God chose to use the most likely again – shepherds. It was to these humble men that God sent his angel to reveal the arrival of Jesus Christ.

Luke 2:8-15 And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. 9 An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. 10 But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. 11 Today in the town of David, a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. 12 This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.” 13 Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, 14 “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.” 15 When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.”

If you’ve ever felt like you are someone too insignificant for God to use, think again! I love it! Christmas is a reminder of how God uses those rejected and not deemed worthy to bring about his most significant works! I pray that you will let this thought sink deeply into your heart! I love the song written by Kim and DeWitt Jones that says, “If you can use anything Lord, you can use me. If you can use anything, Lord, you can use me. Take my hands, Lord, and my feet – touch my heart, Lord, speak through me. If you can use anything, Lord, you can use me.”

Oh yes! This is your season – this is your time to prosper! This is your moment to launch out and fulfill the wonderful things God has prepared for you to accomplish! Let this Christmas season remind you that God often uses the most unlikely! I am praying for you today, asking God to help you have this mindset: If God can use anything …
