I WILL!

Years ago, I wrote a song based on an experience I had while reading the Scripture. Jeremiah, the prophet, was speaking about a leader who would arise and who God would choose to restore Israel. Here’s what he said.

Their leader will be one of their own; their ruler will arise from among them. I will bring him near, and he will come close to me, for who is he who will devote himself to be close to me?' declares the LORD. Jeremiah 30:21

What struck me were the words, “for who is he who will devote himself to be close to me? declares the LORD.” When I read this, a sense of brokenness filled my heart, and I began to weep and write, and here with the words that came forth as a song, "I will, I will, oh here I am, Lord I’m running straight into your arms again.  I will, I will, I will seek your face – oh, Lord come close to me.  I want to know you oh, Lord, here I am.”

I am convinced that God longs to do great things through us as his children, but the only way this is possible is for us to have an “I will” in our hearts towards God, an unreserved “yes Lord!”! Look at what King David said:

I WILL bless the Lord at ALL times, His praise will always be on my lips." Ps 34:1

There is something about saying, “I will!” No matter how you feel, choose to praise Him and thank Him anyway.  So, what causes a person to have an “I will” towards God? The answer is a revelation! The revelation or understanding we have on the inside creates inspiration and that is what motivates the “I will.” It is faith that moves mountains, and faith comes from the revealing of God’s word. Romans 10:17 says, “Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God.” Faith is a result of surrendering to and receiving the truth of the Word of God! When we see God for who he really is, we will declare words of praise to God like these:

Ps 96:1   Sing to the LORD a new song; sing to the LORD, all the earth.   Sing to the LORD, praise his name; proclaim his salvation day after day.   Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous deeds among all peoples.   For great is the LORD and most worthy of praise; he is to be feared above all gods.

The word of God is the declaration of what God believes about you. God longs for you to believe what he believes about you! His desire is you! He will never leave you! He loves you with an everlasting love and will never take his eyes off of you, not even for a second! When this truth is what you live by and what motivates your existence, you will also say, with great boldness…

I WILL!
