GOD’S UNBREAKABLE COVENANT WITH MAN

Part 1

Have you ever considered the profound difference between a contract and a covenant? Though the Bible has a great deal to say about the covenants God has made with man, most people are oblivious to how potent and binding covenants are. During our day and age, contracts are very familiar and are a standard part of everyday business life, however, covenants are almost unheard of and, at best, are few and far between. Both a contract and covenant have to do with a promise between two people or two parties, but they are vastly different in how they are carried out.

A contract is an agreement between two parties that holds up as long as both parties or signatories hold up to the end of the bargain. However, if there is a violation of the contract from either side, the entire contract is subject to become null and void.

A covenant, on the other hand, that is duly established is where both parties agree to hold up their ends of the deal even if the other party does not. In other words, a violation of a covenant by one party doesn’t change the responsibility of the other party to continue to do what they agreed to do.

A duly established covenant is usually typified by significant promises made that are ratified and consummated by the shedding of the blood of humans and/or animals. When God was preparing to cut a covenant with Abraham, he tested him to see if he would be willing to believe.

Genesis 12:1-4 The LORD had said to Abram, “Leave your country, your people and your father’s household and go to the land I will show you. “I will make you into a great nation and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse, and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.” So, Abram left, as the LORD had told him;

After Abram’s willingness to believe, which was proved genuine in his obedience to the direction God gave him, God was ready to move forward with his covenant with Abram. Here is the record of the sacrifice and blood that would be shed to consummate the covenant.

Genesis 15:9-10 So the LORD said to him, “Bring me a heifer, a goat and a ram, each three years old, along with a dove and a young pigeon.”

10 Abram brought all these to him, cut them in two and arranged the halves opposite each other; the birds, however, he did not cut in half.

At this moment, God was preparing to make a covenant with Abraham that could never be broken. This covenant is in full effect to this very day and has the power to transform your life if you are privy to it. God, because he is in love with you, has prepared a way to bless and empower your life! Remember, God’s greatest desire is you! You are his dream come true! I hope you will stay tuned-in because tomorrow we will dive deeper into what’s available for you because of…
