FREE FROM FEAR Part 26

Yesterday we discussed that for humanity to be released from the law, the first thing that had happened was that the law had to be fulfilled. We read in Matthew 5:17 that Jesus came to fulfill the law. Next, we had to be severed from the law. So how does the Bible say that that happened? Take a look.

Eph 2:13-16 But now in Christ Jesus, you who once were far off are made near by the blood of Christ. 14 For he is our peace, who has made both one, and has broken down the middle wall of partition between us; 15 Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; to make in himself of two one new man, so making peace; 16 And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby: (KJV 2000)

So, this Scripture declares that in the flesh of Jesus, the law with its commandments and regulations was abolished in the flesh of Christ. But how did that happen? When did it happen? This next Scripture makes it clear.

Colossians 2:13-14 When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your sinful nature, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, 14 having canceled the written code, with its regulations, that was against us, and that stood opposed to us; he took it away, nailing it to the cross.

So, not only did Jesus fulfill the law, but when he was at the cross, the law was nailed to the cross with him. This is why apostle Paul wrote to the Romans, saying, “Christ is the end of the law so that there may be righteousness for those who believe.” Romans 10:4

There was no way for us to be made right with God through the law, so Jesus came, fulfilled the law on our behalf, and then nailed to the cross. Therefore, Christ is the end of the law as it regards us and now has opened the way to a much higher and more powerful law, the law of love. This is why apostle Paul so pointedly wrote, “For no one can ever be made right with God by doing what the law commands. The law simply shows us how sinful we are.” Rom 3:20 NLT Apostle Paul also wrote, “For all who rely on the works of the law are under a curse, as it is written: “Cursed is everyone who does not continue to do everything written in the Book of the Law.” 11 Clearly no one who relies on the law is justified before God, because “the righteous will live by faith.” 12 The law is not based on faith; on the contrary, it says, “The person who does these things will live by them.” 13 Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written: “Cursed is everyone who is hung on a pole.” 14 He redeemed us in order that the blessing given to Abraham might come to the Gentiles through Christ Jesus so that by faith, we might receive the promise of the Spirit. Gal 3:10-14
