The fantastic story of the praying, daring, and anointed John Knox, the Scottish clergyman, and the Protestant Reformation leader is stunning. He was imprisoned during the late 1540s for supporting the Protestant Reformation in Scotland but never ceased to keep praying, “Lord, give me Scotland, or I die.” God heard his powerful prayers! By the time he died in 1572, the gospel had revolutionized Scotland. Even the Scottish Parliament had adopted the Reformation doctrines. He had such a significant impact that even some of the first missionaries to America were from Scotland. Those missionaries who came to America were known as those unmistakably influenced by John Knox’s life and ministry.

“It is even said that Mary, Queen of Scots, trembled whenever John Knox went to his knees to pray. She even once said that “she would rather face the armies of England than the prayers of John Knox”; she “hated and feared” John Knox. Many believe that this mighty man of God was the tipping point that ended the war with Europe.

Make no mistake; world changers are those who know how to tap into the spiritual realm. Jesus Christ, our Lord, and Savior, often withdrew to lonely places to pray. Luke 5:16 He also taught on prayer and declared it of highest importance and indispensable! Interestingly, the Bible has no record of Jesus teaching his disciples how to preach, but we do have record of him teaching them how to pray.

King David was one of the Old Testament’s greatest men. He is significant enough that Jesus, when he returns, will sit on his throne. As documented in the Psalms and other places, we know that King David had a life of powerful prayer. Listen to a few of his anointed words.

Psalm 27:4  One thing I ask of the LORD, this is what I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the LORD and to seek him in his temple.

Psalm 63:1-8  O God, you are my God, earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you, my body longs for you, in a dry and weary land where there is no water.  I have seen you in the sanctuary and beheld your power and your glory.  Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you.  I will praise you as long as I live, and in your name, I will lift up my hands.  My soul will be satisfied as with the richest of foods; with singing lips, my mouth will praise you.  On my bed, I remember you; I think of you through the watches of the night.  Because you are my help, I sing in the shadow of your wings.  My soul clings to you; your right hand upholds me.

There is no doubt about it! Those whom God will use significantly will be those whose lives are grounded in prayer! All throughout the Bible we see those who tapped into the power of God through prayer. This is why Apostle Paul admonished the church at Colossae by saying, “Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.” Colossians 4:2 He also challenged the church at Thessalonica by telling them to “pray without ceasing.” 1 Thessalonians 5:17

Are you committed to a life of prayer? Do you live your life in a state of communion with God? I promise you; this is the secret to a life of power! You may have heard this quote before, “Much prayer, much power. More prayer, more power. No prayer, no power.” How true this quote is!

As I pray for you today, I am asking God that these simple words will stir you to go deeper into the life of prayer than ever before! May you experience that most precious place of communion and intimacy with God, for this is the…
