WHAT DO PEOPLE DO TO KNOW GOD?

All If you have been to Niagara Falls and have witnessed the overwhelming sight and sounds of the water coming over its crest and dousing you with its powerful mist, it is probably something you could never forget. If a person came up to you and told you that Niagara Falls does not exist, you would probably think they were joking. Why? Because you experienced it! Somebody once said that a man with an argument is always at the mercy of someone with an experience.

God told Abraham that he would have a son and that through him, all nations of the earth would be blessed. Abraham fully believed God! He was so convinced that on the inside, it was a done deal. To Abraham, it was as if he had already experienced it. Abraham fully trusted the character of God.

Romans 4:18-24 Against all hope, Abraham in hope believed and so became the father of many nations, just as it had been said to him, “So shall your offspring be.” 19 Without weakening in his faith, he faced the fact that his body was as good as dead—since he was about a hundred years old—and that Sarah’s womb was also dead. 20 Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, 21 being fully persuaded that God had the power to do what he had promised. 22 This is why “it was credited to him as righteousness.” 23 The words “it was credited to him” were written not for him alone, 24 but also for us, to whom God will credit righteousness—for us who believe in him who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead.

Abraham received a powerful word from God because he was willing to obey whatever God would tell him. You see, God reveals himself to those who choose, in advance, to obey. Look at what Jesus said.

John 7:17 If anyone chooses to do God’s will, he will find out whether my teaching comes from God

Those who choose in advance to obey God are the ones who will hear the words of God. Whenever God reveals something to us, we become responsible for whatever he has said. It is God’s kindness towards us not to give us heavenly instructions if we have not chosen to obey. This is why many people don’t clearly hear the voice of God. God is sparing them from being held responsible for what he has told them.

Are you convinced that what God says will come to pass? Are you persuaded that he loves you and truly wants you to know his abundance? Are you willing to do whatever God would say to you? I assure you, God wants to speak to you and empower you more than you want it for yourself! In advance, God wants you to be fully convinced that what he says is true and be willing to step out immediately to obey whatever he has said.
