WHAT DO PEOPLE DO TO KNOW GOD?

I pray that you have been as challenged and encouraged as I have been by these Encouraging Notes discussing the principles of knowing God. More than anything, I long to know God! I know you feel the same! People who want to know God are those who are all about worship. Why? Because worship is all about intimacy with God. In the Old Testament, the word worship comes from the Hebrew word chavah, and it means to declare or reveal. In the New Testament, the word for worship is proskuneō, and it means to prostrate yourself before or to kiss, like a dog licking his master’s hand.

King David was a man of authentic worship! One of my favorite scriptures and all of the Bible is found in Psalm 63. As you read, let David’s incredible heart of worship touch you today.

Ps 63:1-8    You, God, are my God,  earnestly I seek you; I thirst for you, my whole being longs for you,  in a dry and parched land where there is no water. 2 I have seen you in the sanctuary and beheld your power and your glory. 3 Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you.  4 I will praise you as long as I live, and in your name, I will lift up my hands. 5 I will be fully satisfied as with the richest of foods; with singing lips, my mouth will praise you. 6 On my bed I remember you; I think of you through the watches of the night. 7 Because you are my help, I sing in the shadow of your wings. 8 I cling to you; your right hand upholds me.

I love the words that he uses; earnestly I seek you – I thirst for you – my whole being longs for you – your love is better than life –  I will praise you as long as I live –  I will be fully satisfied as with the richest of foods. Wow! These words are genuine words coming from the heart of someone who knows God! David believed God and understood God’s loving heart towards him. David penned those powerful words because of the extraordinary love he felt from God.

When you feel truly loved, it is natural to reciprocate that love! Yes… All those things that David said about God are what he knew God was saying about him. Yes! God is desperately in love with us! He longs for us! He thirsts for us! Relationship with us is the most passionate desire of his heart! We are his dream come true!

Do you know how much God loves you? Do you know how valuable you are to him? One thing I am sure of; knowing God is all about intimacy with God. The telltale sign of those who are serious about intimacy with God is this…
