The Wealth of God
God is wealthy beyond description! The Bible says that “The earth is the LORD’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it.” Ps 24:1 God spoke through the prophet Haggai saying, “The silver and gold on mine declares the Lord.” Hag 2:8 If you can imagine it, everything in the entire universe is at God’s disposal. Wow!
God loves you more than you will ever know and therefore wants you to experience all that he is! Just as a good father wants his children to have good things, God longs for us to be blessed in every way. 3 John 1:2 says, “Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.”
Jesus exposed God’s heart and the nature of his love when he said, “If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!” Matthew 7:11
Though God wants to bless us in every way, sometimes he must withhold because of the motives of our hearts. Apostle James made this clear when he said, “You do not have because you do not ask God. When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.” James 4:2b-3 When money or things become our God, we end up losing true prosperity. God wants us to have his blessing, but he does not want those blessings to possess us! It’s all about the heart!
If you remember the story of King Solomon, you will remember that God came to him in a dream and told him he would give him whatever he wanted. Solomon asked for wisdom to lead His people, the children of Israel, and that answer was very pleasing to God! Look at what he said to Solomon.
2Chron 1:11-12 God said to Solomon, “Because your greatest desire is to help your people, and you did not ask for wealth, riches, fame or even the death of your enemies or a long life, but rather you asked for wisdom and knowledge to properly govern my people-- I will certainly give you the wisdom and knowledge you requested. But I will also give you wealth, riches, and fame such as no other king has had before you or will ever have in the future!”
Solomon’s heart won the favor of God! Just as God wanted to bless Solomon, so he wants to bless you! If God would give you whatever you wanted, what would it be? I guess the question becomes, can God bless you without that blessing becoming your life or what you love most? One way to know is to look at what you are already doing with your money, time, and passions. Is God first in all those areas? Before God gives you much, he will often test you with a little. Jesus said, “If you are faithful in little things, you will be faithful in large ones. But if you are dishonest in little things, you won’t be honest with greater responsibilities.” Luke 16:10
Are you putting God first with what he has already given you? If the answer is yes, more blessing is headed your way! Someone once said, “If God can get it through you, he can get it to you.”
My dearest friend, I am praying for you today. I’m asking God to help you to put Him first in every area of your life! Yes, may God alone sit as Lord upon the throne of your heart! May he be your God, and may nothing even come close to competing with him! Those who put God first are those who have his heart. God so loved that he gave. John 3:16 How true this saying is – What you make happen for others, God will make happen for you! When you want what God wants more than you want anything else, you’ll end up experiencing the cliché, “having your cake and eating it too!”
My prayer for you today is that you would obtain all that God longs to give you by having a heart that wants God more than you want…
