The Key of Serving

One of the greatest keys to a life of significance is the key of serving. God set a universal principle into motion on the third day of creation, and it is the principle of sowing and reaping. Apostle Paul wrote, “Do not be deceived; God cannot be mocked, whatever a man sows, that shall he also reap.” Gal 6:7. So, this is the principle: What you make happen for others, God will make happen for you. God is all about serving because serving and giving are the nature of love. Near the end of his life, apostle Paul made this remarkable statement, “In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’ ”Acts 20:35.

Apostle Paul spoke of Jesus correctly, for when Jesus was here, he lived as a servant. Jesus said of himself, “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” Mark 10:45. Jesus was a servant because he was filled with the love of God and the way he lived is how you and I are supposed to live. Apostle John wrote, “And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in him. In this way, love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment because, in this world, we are like him. 1 John 4:16-17.

Remember, “What you make happen for others, God will make happen for you.” Scripture tells us that God so loved that he gave. John 3:16. The result of God’s love for us was giving, and the result of his giving was the reconciliation of the entire body of Christ to himself. Yes, God was operating within his own principle – you reap what you sow!

The Pharisees and the teachers of the law did not live in the love of God. Their lives were focused on being the greatest and trying to gain the praise of men. So, Jesus told them, “The greatest among you will be your servant. For whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted. Mt 23:11-12. The harshest words Jesus ever spoke were directed at those who were the most religious, self-righteous, and self-seeking.

Before Jesus left this earth, he gave us what we now know of as the great commission.

Matthew 28:18-20  Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

This great commission from God calls us to give our lives away to reconcile the world back to himself. Why? Because love is the essence of Christianity, and giving is the essence of love! You always know when someone is genuinely tapping into God – their lives are filled with love. Many people claim Christianity and can quote a lot of Scripture, but not all operate in love. Those who have a genuine relationship with God are filled with God’s love. Romans 5:5 says, “The love of God has been shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Spirit.” The most significant purpose of the Holy Spirit is to fill us with God’s love. Why? Because love fulfills the entire law.

Romans 13:10 Love does no harm to a neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.

There is nothing you could ever possibly do that would change the world more than being filled with the love of God! What you are filled with on the inside is what your life will produce on the outside. The entire purpose of God is wrapped up inside of love, and love at its core is all about giving. Please don’t ever forget this principle – What you make happen for others, God will make happen for you. The more a person impacts others, the more significant their life is. My dearest friend, God wants you to have a life of significance, and I am convinced that one of the greatest keys to a life of significance is…
