WHY!

Some things require a combination code or password to get in. Have you ever tried logging in to a website but didn’t have the right password? To some, Christianity is like that.

Have you ever struggled with the idea of God being deeply in love with you? I have! I have often considered the love of God in light of what King David did in committing adultery with Bathsheba and then having her husband murdered. (Read 2 Samuel chapters 11 and 12)  At times, there has been a part of me that wants to be so angry at him! He was so evil – why would God love him! Why, in the New Testament, did the angel call King David the father of Jesus? Why would God allow himself to be associated with such a piece of scum? Since God knows all things, why would he call David a man after his own heart?  (Acts 13:22)  Why does Jesus say, out of his own mouth, in the book of Revelation that he holds the key of David?  (Rev 3:7 ) It seems like, after witnessing the horrible acts of sin David committed, God would not mention him or be associated with him anymore.

On a more personal note, I have often  wondered why Jesus would come for someone like me with all my sin and failure, and not only me, a world of people like me! The contemplation of this kind of love seems to find itself in the category of a fairytale or just too good to be true!

Oh, the grace and the mercy of God! If we only knew – if we would only let go and receive! Yes, I know – it’s so far beyond our thinking that it boggles the mind of those who try to conceive it! Yes, it is absolutely crazy! But, nonetheless, God truly loves us... He loves you!

Jn 3:16-17 “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.

Lk 19:10 For the Son of Man came to seek and to save what was lost.

1 John 3:1  How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are.

Think about it: God was willing to give up everything to have you! Yes, you – and yes me! Absolutely astounding! In light of this incredible truth, what should our response be? How are you responding to his amazing love and mercy?

Rom 12:1  Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual act of worship.

May your response to the precious love of God be uninhibited, childlike surrender! May you fully yield to any and every desire of his loving heart towards you! May the revelation of his love for you drive you to passionate acts of love and service for him and for others! Trying to understand why God would give his life for us is like trying to put all the oceans of the world into a teaspoon! Don’t try to figure out God’s love – just let go, and let him love you! Just receive! Receiving his love is what empowers you to live a life that looks just like him! Now is the time and this is the secret combination code: The password you need is Just-Receive-and-Don’t-Ask…
