A CUP OF WATER

It's Christmas time, the season of giving! In God's economy, there is a reward for giving and serving even when it is in a small way. Consider this: God's heart is so much into serving that merely providing a cup of water to someone who serves Jesus is an act worthy of reward from God. It's worth it! Look at the words of Jesus himself:

Mk 9:41 I tell you the truth, anyone who gives you a cup of water in my name because you belong to Christ will certainly not lose his reward.

The people who are changing this world into a better place are those who have the heart of a servant. When Jesus came, the impact he made was profound! His power flowed from a heart that was selfless and all about giving! Think about it; he did not come to be served but rather to serve others and even give his life away.

Matthew 20:28  just as the Son of Man, did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

John 3:16  God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son, that whoever would believe in him would not perish but have everlasting life.

Many times, at the heart of what many call love is the spirit of taking, a "what’s in it for me." Often people will give with an ulterior motive. They give expecting to get something in return. At the center of the love of God is the spirit of giving with no strings attached. Even Jesus, though he was God, had the right to be served.Instead, he gave his life away without reservation to a world that hated him. During his final moments of suffering at the hands of those he came to love and serve, he said these powerful words, “Father forgive them for they know not what they are doing.” Luke 23:34 God rose high above the evil thoughts and actions pointed against him. Without wavering, he gave his life away to save those who killed him. Try that on for size!

Oh yes! Christmas is a stark reminder of what true love really looks like and it affords us a unique opportunity to love and serve those around us and to give ourselves a way! Think about it: In the economy of God, giving and serving are worthy of eternal reward. Don’t wait for Christmas day – the season is NOW! Somebody that is near you can have a life-changing encounter by the love of Jesus living through you! Who can you serve today? Where are you going to give your life away? Determine this very moment what you are going to do, and then, carry it out with the joy that comes from serving our wonderful Lord!

It's Christmas time, the season for giving! Think about it – it only takes…
