IT IS NOT ABOUT YOUR GODLINESS!

In Acts chapter 3 apostle Luke tells the story of a man who was lame from birth and begged for money every day at the well-known gate called beautiful. As Peter and John were walking down that street, they encountered this lame man who asked him for money. The following is what Peter said to him:

“Silver or gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk.” Taking him by the right hand, he helped him up, and instantly the man’s feet and ankles became strong. He jumped to his feet and began to walk. Then he went with them into the temple courts, walking and jumping, and praising God." Acts 3:6-8

As soon as this happened, people started coming from all over to see this man who was healed and who was still clinging to Peter and John. As the amazed and perplexed crowd grew, Peter addressed them and said this very important statement. 

When Peter saw this, he said to them: “Fellow Israelites, why does this surprise you? Why do you stare at us as if by our own power or godliness we had made this man walk? By faith in the name of Jesus, this man whom you see and know was made strong. It is Jesus’ name and the faith that comes through him that has completely healed him, as you can all see. Acts 3:12,16 

Peter wanted to make it very clear that it was not because of his godliness or personal power that the man was healed but rather because of faith in the name of Jesus. You can also be sure that God is not inspecting your godliness to determine whether he will do great things through you or not – he is looking for your faith! In the kingdom of God, it's all about the heart and what we believe! God knows that unless we believe him he cannot give to us or through us the amazing things he has to offer! God’s greatest desire is to provide us with all the blessings heaven has to offer, but only faith can tap us into it. Will you believe him today?
