FREE FROM FEAR Part 8

The only command God gave Adam and Eve, in the beginning, was to not partake of a particular knowledge. Wow! It seems absolutely crazy! Think about it. How could keeping us from a connection with one specific type of knowledge be the most important thing on God’s agenda?

So, what was that knowledge? What knowledge could be so detrimental that it would change the course of history in such an unimaginable and horrible way? Let’s dissect what the Bible says about it so that we can correctly identify it.

Number one, we see that it was the knowledge of two things – good and evil.

Genesis 2:16-17 And the Lord God commanded the man, “You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; 17 but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die.”

What is the knowledge of good and evil? It is the knowledge of the things you should do and the things you shouldn’t do, thou shalt and thou shalt not. God told Adam and Eve, “The day you partake of it is the day you will die.” Gen 2:17Therefore, the knowledge of the things you should do and the things you shouldn’t do are connected to death. The law that God gave to Moses on Mount Sinai, 2451 years after Adam, was the knowledge of good and evil for it declared all the things that you should do and the things that you shouldn’t do, thou shalt and thou shalt not. The New Testament describes this knowledge very succinctly – take a look.

2 Corinthians 3:7-9 Now if the ministry (or knowledge) that brought death, which was engraved in letters on stone, came with glory, so that the Israelites could not look steadily at the face of Moses because of its glory, transitory though it was, 8 will not the ministry of the Spirit be even more glorious? 9 If the ministry (or knowledge) that brought condemnation was glorious, how much more glorious is the ministry that brings righteousness!

What ministry (or knowledge) do we have in the word of God that was engraved with letters on stone except for the law of Moses? None! But what does the Scripture say that it brought? Death and condemnation. Yes, this is why the apostle Paul declares the law of Moses the law of sin and death.

Romans 8:1-2 Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, 2 because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death.

So, the knowledge of good and evil that Adam and Eve partook of was, in fact, the law of Moses. This knowledge of good and evil is the power behind what caused Jesus to go to the cross. Apostle Paul, in his letter to the Corinthians, said, “The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law.” 1 Corinthians 15:56 This is why Romans 5:20 says, “The law was added so that the trespass (or sin) would increase.” In other words, the knowledge of good and evil is the power that makes people sin.

So, here’s the question, is everybody bound to the law? Did Adam and Eve enter into a binding connection to the law of Moses? Tomorrow we will answer that question.

It is time for us as the body of Christ to rise up! We are God’s kids – royalty! God has called us to greatness! My dear friend, today is your day to receive your right standing with God and to walk in all the power that it affords! Yes! Today is your day to be…
