You Don’t Have To Be Afraid

It is essential to recognize that God thoroughly tests those he will use greatly. God tested Abraham with his son, Isaac; he tested the children of Israel in the desert; God tested the loyalty of Hezekiah’s heart, and the list goes on and on. Because of what God wants to accomplish in and through us, he will also allow us to face times of testing.

Sometimes During those challenging times, the things in our lives that do not proceed from faith come to the surface. God desires that you trust him so much that you are not afraid even when the winds and waves are blowing, or the heat of that fiery trial has been turned up! It is important to note that heat causes the impurities in the gold to come to the surface so they can be skimmed off. Likewise, it’s the heat of a trial that causes the dross of our lives to rise to the top. Often, challenging times help us recognize those attitudes and actions keeping us from God’s very best for our lives! Look at what Jesus allowed the disciples to go through.

Mark 6:46-51  After leaving them, he went up on a mountainside to pray. When evening came, the boat was in the middle of the lake, and he was alone on land. He saw the disciples straining at the oars because the wind was against them. About the fourth watch of the night, he went out to them, walking on the lake. He was about to pass by them, but when they saw him walking on the lake, they thought he was a ghost. They cried out because they all saw him and were terrified. Immediately he spoke to them and said, “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.” Then he climbed into the boat with them, and the wind died down. They were completely amazed.

The fact that it was Jesus made the disciples realize that they didn’t have to be afraid! God is with you right now and I promise, you don’t have to be afraid! Remember, God is with you; He promised, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” So we say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?” Hebrews 13:5b-6

King David said, “Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil.” Psalm 23:4  If you are facing times of confusion and darkness, it will not be for the rest of your life; it is only for a season and definitely for a reason. Through this trial, God wants to launch you into greater purpose and significance! He has his eye on you and will see you through to the other side!

Keep your eyes on Jesus! Focus on God’s promises, not your problems! God is speaking to you right now and he is saying, “It is I,…
