WHAT DO PEOPLE DO TO KNOW GOD?
One of the things we have discussed that people do to know God is that they believe. But what does it mean to believe God? What is faith? Can you try hard to have faith? I assure you, faith is not something you can work up! Faith is more than a good idea or even knowledge about God; it is a spiritual substance. Faith is something tangible and real. Hebrews 11:1 says, “Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not yet seen.”
When a person believes, it means that they have accessed the revelation for what they believe for. No longer is it a good idea within them; it has become a living reality. Faith is accessing the reality of something that is not yet physically present. Those who have the faith of God are fully persuaded – without question and without a doubt!
Shortly after the day of Pentecost, Peter and John were walking past the gate called Beautiful, where they encountered a man who was crippled from birth and was begging for money. Here’s what transpired.
Acts 3:4-8 Peter looked straight at him, as did John. Then Peter said, “Look at us!” 5 So the man gave them his attention, expecting to get something from them. 6 Then Peter said, “Silver or gold I do not have, but what I have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk.” 7 Taking him by the right hand, he helped him up, and instantly the man’s feet and ankles became strong. 8 He jumped to his feet and began to walk. Then he went with them into the temple courts, walking and jumping and praising God.
Wow! Peter and John looked at the man with the confidence of heaven. They were fully convinced of what was inside of them. They didn’t have any money with them, but what they did bring was the power to heal. The confidence they walked in saw the man completely healed before it happened. They were fully convinced because they already saw it as a done deal!
In the Bible, we see story after story of those who had genuine faith and saw God move mightily on their behalf. Remember David and Goliath? The situation was impossible in the natural, but because of David’s confidence in God, what looked impossible was not only possible but an absolute!
So what does it mean to believe God? You could almost exchange the word believe for the word revelation or revealing. Faith is when you receive an epiphany from heaven – the lights turn on! Now you can see! Those who meditate upon God’s Word until it becomes a genuine revelation will be those who walk in the power of God! Someone once said, “You’ll never know until you know.” How true that is!
I am praying for you today, my dear friend! I’m asking God to help you to understand that it is the word of God revealed that will cause you to walk in God’s power! Yes – when the Word of God is revealed to you and has become you, is
