CONSISTENTLY SEEK GOD

THOSE WHO KNOW THEIR GOD Part 34

“Those who know their God will be strong and do great things.” Dan 11:32

WHAT DO PEOPLE DO TO KNOW GOD?

People who want to be experts at something in their life are purposeful and systematic about their pursuit. Often they go to college or design a curriculum to obtain the results they desire. This is how it is with those who genuinely want to know God. Those whose hearts are set on living in the abundant life that Jesus came to give us purposefully, systematically pursue the heart of God. Daniel, the powerfully anointed prophet of God, was such a person.

Daniel 6:10 Now, when Daniel learned that the decree had been published, he went home to his upstairs room where the windows opened toward Jerusalem. Three times a day, he got down on his knees and prayed, giving thanks to his God, just as he had done before.

From the Scripture, we can see that Daniel purposefully, systematically pursued the heart of God. Three times a day, he would get on his knees and pray to God. Oh yes – there is something to be said for the word consistency. The race is not won by those who go hard for a few days or even for a month or two. No! The race is won by those who purposefully and consistently pursue their dream.

Moses described how important consistent and persistent pursuit of God’s laws were when he said, “These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. 7 Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. 8 Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. 9 Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.” Deuteronomy 6:6-9

Wow! Here is the definition of intentional pursuit – Talk about them when you sit at home, walk along the road, lie down, and get up. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and gates, and even tie them as symbols on your hands and foreheads. This Scripture describes consistently and constantly pursuing what’s important.

In apostle Paul’s instructions to the Thessalonian church, he said, “Rejoice in the Lord always, pray continually, and in everything give thanks for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.” 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

Always – Continually – In everything. Oh yes! That Is a definition of what people do who are passionate about something! The story was told of a young preacher who came up to the great men of God, Smith Wigglesworth. The young preacher asked Smith, “how can I walk in the power of God like you.” Smith Wigglesworth lived out on a farm and called the man over to a nearby watering trough for the cattle. He told the young preacher to get close and look intently into the fully filled watering trough. When the young man got close, Smith grabbed his head and shoved it under the water. He held the young man until he was near the point of drowning. When he finally let the young man up, he was screaming and yelling – “What are you doing? Are you trying to kill me?” Smith calmly looked at the man square in his eyes and said, “When you want God as much as you wanted that last breath, you will find him.”

Jeremiah 29:13 You will seek me, and you will find me after that you have sought for me with all your heart.

So here’s my question to you today; are you purposefully, consistently pursuing the heart of God? Is God the center of your life, your days, and your moments? Those who truly want something, think about it all the time and consistently pursue it. As I have watched people live the Christian life, I have seen a separation between those who go deep in God and those who don’t. I can assure you that those who genuinely want to know God are those who purposefully and…
