Heaven’s Fashion
Regarding fashion, I’m always amazed at how what used to be will be again. I should’ve hung onto those 1980s clothes – right? :-) So, here’s a question for you today – would you consider yourself to be fashionable? Are you rocking the latest? Maybe there’s a better question we should be asking– Is your life making a fashion statement? What do people think of when they think of you? What impresses them the most about you?
When we hear the term fashion, we tend to only think in terms of hairdos, clothes, jewelry, etc. Is it the clothes we are wearing that people are paying attention to, or is it the way we live that inspires others the most? Though the following Scripture is directed at women, all of us can learn something from it.
1 Peter 3:3-4 Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as braided hair and the wearing of gold jewelry and fine clothes. Instead, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight.
When people look at me, I want them to see God’s love – I want them to see Hope! I want the fashion statement of my life to declare to people that I love them and that God loves them! I want to be a vital part of God’s army of love warriors who are impacting this world with his love and grace! In light of that, consider this fashion statement right from the lips of Jesus.
Matthew 5:16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.
What do people see when they encounter you? When people encountered Jesus, he was rocking the fashion statement of heaven – LOVE! Oh, may this be our reality, as children of the King of Love; our heavenly Father!
Col 3:12-14 Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.
Here’s my prayer for you today: May you be clothed with the love of Jesus Christ! May God’s goodness, kindness, and love emanate so powerfully from your life today that the people will be changed and give glory to God because of you! Oh, yes! May you live so loved by God that his precious love flows through you in abundance!
