He Sees a King

The world may label you based on your abilities, but God is most interested in your availability. When a person has childlike faith, God has the power to do great things through them, no matter who they are or where they came from.

The word anoint in the Bible means to smear on or pour upon. So, when God anoints a person, he smears the presence of his Holy Spirit upon them. Therefore, when God anoints someone, they become endowed with the Holy Spirit and his power. Yes, when God anoints someone, it is for a reason, and something significant is sure to happen in their life! God is looking for those upon whom he can pour out his precious Holy Spirit. He longs to anoint those he can trust to carry his power.

In the book of first Samuel, we read how God sent the prophet Samuel to the house of Jesse to anoint one of his sons as the new King over Israel. As the sons of Jesse passed before him, each one was rejected by God. After all the sons had passed before Samuel, he asked Jesse, “Are these all the sons you have?” The father said, “the youngest son is out in the field tending the sheep.” The youngest son, David, had been given the lowliest job of tending the sheep and was the least likely of all the brothers to be chosen for something as significant as King. The probabilities were so against him that he was not even invited to this most important meeting. But, when others see an insignificant shepherd boy, God may see a king. Samuel said, “Send for him; we will not sit down until he arrives.” So he sent and had him brought in. He was ruddy, with a fine appearance and handsome features. Then the LORD said, “Rise and anoint him; he is the one.” 1Sam 16:11-12

God knew that he could trust David with his anointing and brought about every circumstance necessary to put him in a place of power.

So Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the presence of his brothers, and from that day on, the Spirit of the LORD came upon David in power. Samuel then went to Ramah. 1Sam 16:13

Wow! “From that day on, the spirit of the Lord came upon David in power.” It wasn’t about David’s abilities; it was about his availability! David was a true worshiper of God! He sought the face of God and knew his heart! Because of his humble and surrendered heart, God knew that he could trust him with his anointing.

Are you someone whom God can trust with his anointing? God is longing to touch our hurting world through his power, and he wants to use you! The secret to being one whom God can trust with his power is to be one who has humbly received the love and grace of God. When life is no longer about us, God can use us mightily! It is so important to remember that this kind of life is not worked up – it is soaked up. When we yield ourselves to the Holy Spirit and his truth, God will do the rest!

2Chron 16:9 For the eyes of the Lord range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him

Yes, right now, the Spirit of God is searching the whole earth, looking for those he can empower through his anointing! Again, what is the secret to receiving God’s anointing? The answer is to humbly receive what God has done for you through Jesus and fully receive who he says you are! Simple, childlike faith in who God declares you to be is what will prepare you to be one God can powerfully anoint. Oh yes – it’s power time! Others may look at you and see a shepherd boy, but when God looks at you…
