A Positive Attitude Looks like Love

Yesterday we talked about the power of a positive attitude, so today, I want to discuss what a positive attitude looks like. When I think of a positive attitude, I think of the following Scripture that sums up what the life of a positive person would look like.

Rom 12:9-21 9 Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. 10 Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves. 11 Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. 12 Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. 13 Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality.

14 Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. 15 Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn. 16 Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position. Do not be conceited.

17 Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone. 18 If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. 19 Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” says the Lord. 20 On the contrary:  “If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head.” 21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

Wow! Intense! When you carefully look at what causes a person to be genuinely positive, you will conclude that a positive person is empowered by the Spirit of love. Yes, it is the love of God that enables a person to put others first and uplift others continually.

Without a doubt, it is love that causes a person to live with a positive mindset! Why? Because “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy; it does not boast; it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

8 Love never fails. 1Co. 13:4-8.

Love is always trying to build others up! Love is seeing the best in those around you! One of the essential purposes of the Holy Spirit is to cause us to be filled with love. Why? Because the entire character of God is made known through the fruit of the Spirit, which can all be summed up in the word love. Romans 5:5 says that “The love of God has been shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Spirit.” Apostle John said, “God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them. 1 John 4:16b. It is impossible to live a life of love and not be a positive person. Likewise, it is also impossible to live in fear yet be filled with love! Why? Because love is fearless! 1 John 4:18 says, “perfect love casts out fear.” Therefore, a truly positive attitude is fearless because its motivation is love.

People who believe God are people who have a positive attitude. Why? Because a person who believes God also believes that he is everywhere, all-powerful, and is fiercely in love with them! The Bible is full of amazing stories of those who believed God and found him to be everything he says he is!

It’s interesting how a positive person is always part of the answer, where A negative person seems to always be a part of the problem. A positive person seems to always come up with a plan, but a negative person always comes up with an excuse. A positive person will always ask how they can help you, but a negative person thinks in their heart, “that’s not my job.” A positive person seems to have an answer for every problem, but a negative person finds a problem with every solution. A positive person may recognize the difficulty of a situation but will view it as possible, but a negative person who knows it is possible will consider the situation too difficult to achieve success.

My dearest friend, God has called you to be a winner, and without a doubt, winners have positive attitudes. Don’t ever forget what is at the core of a genuinely positive attitude because it is the core and foundation for all of life. Remember, God is love; a positive attitude is empowered by love and…
