Positive Thoughts

We have been talking about the power of a positive attitude and what it can do for you and your life. So far, we have discussed the importance of a positive attitude and have determined what a positive attitude looks like. But do you know where a positive attitude comes from? If you need groceries, you probably don’t go to Home Depot, Ace Hardware, or Lowe’s – no, you go to the grocery store, right? Likewise, to experience a life charged with a positive attitude, we must know where to go and how it operates.

Does a positive attitude come from merely trying hard to be positive? I think if that were the case, everyone would be positive. In a world where bad news is what sells and  where negativity rules most conversations, living with a positive attitude requires more than simply trying hard; a strategy from God must be set in place. Tomorrow we will discuss the strategy, but first, it is essential to be clear about where a positive attitude comes from.

King Solomon said, “as a man thinks in his heart, so is he.” Proverbs 23:7 KJV. Therefore, the way a person thinks determines who a person is. As I said yesterday, a person cannot think negative thoughts all the time and still be a positive person. Conversely, a person cannot think positive thoughts all the time and be a negative person. Therefore, your thoughts determine how rewarding, fulfilling, and significant your life will be. Solomon also said, “Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life.” Proverbs 4:23.

Because there is so much negativity in the world, you have to be very diligent about guarding your heart! Many people fall into the destructive trap of constantly listening to and meditating upon the negative news that pours out from the media. The danger is not just in fake news; it’s the danger of constantly thinking about bad news. Though there is some value in knowing what is going on, there is greater value in making sure your minute by minute and second by second thoughts are filled with God’s perspective of life! Without a doubt, we are in the final days before the rapture and the tribulation, but we, as Christians, should be fully engaged in bringing this world to Christ!

More than ever, it is critical that you directly confront and analyze your thought life. Do you live your life in the joy of the Lord, or do you find yourself living in fear because of all the bad news? Do you love being you, or do you find yourself dreading waking up and facing each day? It is so important, to be honest! God’s greatest desire is that your life would be so filled with him that you would live your earthly days experiencing the abundant life of heaven!

What goes into your eyes and ears will determine the output of your life. Jesus said, “Make a tree good, and its fruit will be good, or make a tree bad, and its fruit will be bad, for a tree is recognized by its fruit. 34 You brood of vipers, how can you who are evil say anything good? For out of the overflow of the heart, the mouth speaks. 35 The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in him. 36 But I tell you that men will have to give account on the day of judgment for every careless word they have spoken. 37 For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words, you will be condemned.” Mat 12:33-37.

Your attitude is a direct result of what you have stored up within you. Do you fill your mind with God’s thoughts? Does the radio station you listen to constantly feed you the worship of heaven? Does it focus on God’s precious thoughts toward you? Apostle James said, “Can both fresh water and saltwater flow from the same spring? 12 My brothers, can a fig tree bear olives or a grapevine bear figs? Neither can a salt spring produce fresh water. James 3:11-12.

A person’s attitude comes from their thought life, and a person’s thought life comes from their input. My dearest friend, God is calling you to a high place inside of him where your thoughts are dominated by how he feels about you and his provision for every area of your life. Tomorrow we will talk about strategy for living with a positive attitude, but I hope from today’s discussion that you are convinced that being a positive person is a direct result of choosing a life of…
