No Favoritism
There is a significant difference between being a part of a denomination and promoting denominationalism. The heart of denominationalism focuses on its differences and always declares itself superior to anyone else. But as far as relationship with God is concerned, God has created us all equal and loves every person no matter the color, race, or denominational name! God has a unique and essential plan for all of us and shows no favoritism!
Acts 10:34-35 Then Peter began to speak: “I now realize how true it is that God does not show favoritism but accepts from every nation the one who fears him and does what is right.
Peter’s opening speech on the day of Pentecost would mark the beginning of the most significant change in the history of humanity since the fall of Adam and Eve. But his speech in acts chapter 10 would mark the second greatest change in all of history, which is that not just Jews but every person from every nation on earth would also be included in God’s amazing plan of salvation! You are God’s favorite, and so am I! Wow! What an incredible thought! God loves every one of us and wants us all to be united together inside of him! Jesus, in John 17, prayed to God for this unity – His words are powerful!
John 17:11b,20-23 Holy Father, protect them by the power of your name–the name you gave me–so that they may be one, as we are one. “My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one: I in them and you in me. May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.
Because Jesus does not pray prayers that will not get answered, I am assured that there is a revival coming that will cause unity amongst the body of Christ as never before! As far as denominations are concerned, I think when we get to heaven, we will find out that we were all wrong in one way or another. None of us have all the answers!
One thing I know, God is against favoritism and denominationalism! He is longing for the spirit of unity to come to its fullness in his body, the church. May we determine to live the way God lives! How does God live? God is love; everything he does is love, and unity is at the center of his agenda. Apostle Paul wrote, “And now these three remain: faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is love.” 1Cor 13:13
My dearest friend, God is in love with you and with everyone you have ever known or has ever crossed your path! This thought should warm your heart today – God is in love with all of us, and with him, there is …
