What They Think
How often have we done things differently than what was in our hearts because we were swayed by what others would think? Often the way we have dressed, what we have bought, what we have said, and what we have done have been directly influenced by what we thought others would think of us. This is called man-pleasing and is often the seed of destruction for many!
Because of his man-pleasing spirit, King Herod cared more about what people thought than what God thought. Take a look.
Acts 12:2-3 He (King Herod) had James, the brother of John, put to death with the sword. When he saw that this met with approval among the Jews, he proceeded to seize Peter also. This happened during the Festival of Unleavened Bread.
Later on.........
Acts 12:21-23 On the appointed day, Herod, wearing his royal robes, sat on his throne and delivered a public address to the people. They shouted, “This is the voice of a god, not of a man.” Immediately, because Herod did not give praise to God, an angel of the Lord struck him down, and he was eaten by worms and died.
When we care more about what God thinks than others think and are willing to obey him no matter what, we will protect ourselves from many pitfalls and possible great calamities! King Solomon said, “Fear of man will prove to be a snare, but whoever trusts in the Lord is kept safe.” Proverbs 29:25
My dear friend, today is a great day to draw a line in the sand and determine to obey God no matter what others think! May today marked the beginning of not being swayed by the opinions of others and having the freedom to do what is really in your heart! From now on, may what you choose to wear, buy, and say and what you choose to do be based upon your relationship with your loving Heavenly Father! As you know, he is already in love with you, so you don’t have to impress him! :-)
Since God knows what is best for you, you can let go of all the pressure of pleasing others and choose to do what he has put in your heart! Talk about freedom! :-) I think you would agree with me on this – today would be a good day not to care…
