A Conduit for His Emotions
Have you ever meditated on the fact that God has emotions? Yes, his emotions are just like ours, except his emotions are far more intense and never fickle or up-and-down. The Bible declares that he is the same, yesterday, today, and forever. (Heb 13:8)
The emotion spoken of the most in the Bible is wrapped up in the word love. God is fiercely in love with us, and that truth never changes; it’s the same now as it was 2000 years ago when God, because of his intense love for us, sacrificed his only son for our sin! The Bible gives us many examples of Jesus’ emotions, like when he wept for Lazarus (John 11:35) or when he cried out to God with loud cries and tears (Heb 5:7), or when he went into the temple with a whip and drove out those who were turning the house of God into a money market (John 2:13-17).
God has intense emotions, but everything he does is driven by love. How wonderful it would be if we all lived in the purity and stability of God’s loving emotions! This is possible only if we are filled with his thoughts and emotions. David cried out to God, saying, “Create in me a clean heart, oh God, and renew a right spirit within me.” Psalm 51:10 In other words, God, cause my heart to be your heart!
When a person becomes born again, the Holy Spirit comes to live inside of them, and his most significant purpose is to fill us with God’s love.
Romans 5:5 The love of God has been poured out into our hearts by the Holy Spirit.
The more we allow the Holy Spirit to be in control of our lives, the more we are transformed and become Christlike.
2Co 5:17 If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has gone; the new has come!
Rom 12:2 Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.
Emotions are like fuel; they can give you the power to go in the right or wrong direction. Our emotions often get in the way and mess things up. Often they are self-centered and driven by fear, greed, and pride. Our emotions are a byproduct of our dominant thoughts. I have often said, if you change the way you think, it will change the way you feel. If you change the way you feel, it will change the way you act. If you change the way you act, it will change your entire destiny.
People often give in to their emotions by using the excuse – “that’s just the way I feel, and I’m not going to fake it.” Just because we feel one way or another doesn’t mean our feelings are correct. Our feelings must be driven by love, and love-driven feelings are a byproduct of renewing one’s mind with the truth of God’s love and grace.
The person who begins comprehending the reality that they can experience life from an entirely new point of view becomes excited and begins to live life to its fullest! Jesus came so that we could live his life! God wants his kingdom to flow in you and through you!
