When we accept the praise that comes from people, we could make ourselves vulnerable to the criticism and judgment of people. What people thought about Jesus, good or bad, was not important to him; Jesus found his value in what God, and only God, thought about him! When we discover our value only in what God thinks, it causes us to rise to a higher level, and the praise and criticism of man lose its power. We cannot serve God or do his purposes, even in the least bit, by our own efforts. This is a supernatural work of God’s revelation living in us and through us! The fact that we often feel like we have to be “right” in a discussion shows our connection to our own right-ness! Giving this up is not easy!
