HOLD IT!

Sometimes we are so, so tempted to say what is on our mind, but oh how those times can flare up the most dreaded “foot in mouth” disease. Apostle James tells us that the tongue is dangerous because even a small spark can set a whole forest on fire! 

James 3:5-6 Likewise, the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark. 6 The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole body, sets the whole course of one’s life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell.

It is so strong and honorable when you humbly back away to avoid strife. How often does it help when you just lay it all out there on the line? Being quick to speak our whole mind is what causes needless relational forest fires to be started and where, in the end, everyone ends up the loser. Consider these proverbs… 

Prov 20:3 It is to a man’s honor to avoid strife, but every fool is quick to quarrel.

Proverbs 29:11 A fool uttereth all his mind: but a wise man keepeth it in till afterwards. (KJV)

The wisdom of God is calling you to a life of honor. Turning away from the temptation to speak your mind will save you from the snare of quarreling and strife! Though there are many things you could argue quarrel about, holding your peace and letting God fight your battles is where true victory is won! Through Moses, God spoke to the children of Israel – here’s what he said… 

Exodus 14:14 The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still.”

If you have to fight to be right, you are usually trusting in yourself instead of trusting God! What great trouble is avoided by simply holding your peace! I declare that the wisdom of God is yours today, and it will empower you to HOLD IT! Remember, it’s God who will ultimately settle the score. 

Heb 10:30 For we know him who said, “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” and again, “The Lord will judge his people.”

May the grace of God be upon you to operate in true wisdom today! Because God is in love with you, you don’t need to be right or get your way! No matter what, you can be sure that God has the best in store for you! Your job is to simply trust him! 

Don’t ever forget that God has the final say! When you trust him, you step out of the way and allow him to fight for you. With God on your side, you can be assured that your best is yet to come! In this particular and most important area, choose to trust God today! Yes, you can do it! You can…
