FREE FROM FEAR part 13

Yesterday I told you that I wanted to make it clear from Scripture that Jesus came to deliver us from the law of Moses. Remember, the law which was inscribed with letters on stone brought death and condemnation. 2Cor 3:7-10 My intent today is to provide you with Scriptures that clearly state our freedom from the law because of Christ’s sacrifice.

Ephesians 2:15-16 (Jesus) by abolishing in his flesh the law with its commandments and regulations. His purpose was to create in himself one new man out of the two, thus making peace, 16 and in this one body to reconcile both of them to God through the cross, by which he put to death their hostility (The Law).

Colossians 2:13-14 13 When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your sinful nature, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, 14 having canceled the written code (The Law), with its regulations, that was against us, and that stood opposed to us; he took it away, nailing it to the cross.

Romans 10:3-4 Since they did not know the righteousness that comes from God and sought to establish their own, they did not submit to God’s righteousness. 4 Christ is the end of the law so that there may be righteousness for everyone who believes.

Romans 7:1-6 Do you not know, brothers—for I am speaking to men who know the law—that the law has authority over a man only as long as he lives? 2 For example, by law, a married woman is bound to her husband as long as he is alive, but if her husband dies, she is released from the law of marriage. 3 So then, if she marries another man while her husband is still alive, she is called an adulteress. But if her husband dies, she is released from that law and is not an adulteress, even though she marries another man.

4 So, my brothers, you also died to the law through the body of Christ, that you might belong to another, to him who was raised from the dead, in order that we might bear fruit to God. 5 For when we were controlled by the sinful nature, the sinful passions aroused by the law were at work in our bodies, so that we bore fruit for death. 6 But now, by dying to what once bound us, we have been released from the law so that we serve in the new way of the Spirit, and not in the old way of the written code.

Before God’s provision for righteousness through the sacrifice of Jesus, we belonged to the law with marriage covenant status. But now, by faith in our co-death with Christ, we are delivered from the law to serve God in the new way of the Spirit and not in the old way of the written code, the law. This is why the apostle Paul said, “For we maintain that a person is justified by faith apart from the works of the law.” Romans 3:28

By the testimony of two or more witnesses, every word is established. Though there are many more scriptures that declare our freedom from the law, I have given you enough to make it very clear that God has, through Christ, declared our freedom from the law and opened to us a new way to live.

You may be asking: how can a person access this new life where they can honestly come before God and feel righteous? Again, I’m so glad you asked because tomorrow, we are going deeper into the beautiful life that God has granted to us through Jesus Christ – the life that is…
